Executive roles

President

The President position involves the overall management of the journal. You will coordinate with every executive to formulate a clear strategic plan for the issue and work with the oversight board to ensure the smooth functioning of the various processes.

Vice-President

Your role will consist in aiding the President in the management of the various branches of the Journal. You will work with the President to devise issue ten’s strategy, liaise with the oversight board, and represent the Journal in meetings with external partners.

Editor-in-Chief of the Biannual Issue

Your role will consist in the overall management of the biannual Journal publication. You’ll lead the new editorial board, run the peer-review workshop, oversee submissions, and generally coordinate the process of peer review by liaising with authors and editors.

Editor-in-Chief of the Website Content and Special Issues

Your role will be the overall management of all short form content. You’ll lead the team of interviews officers, short-form content editors, and writers, oversee the production of interviews, commentaries, and book reviews on political affairs, and expand this new section of the Journal. You will work with the Secretary to feature these works in the Journal’s weekly newsletter.

Secretary

Your role will be the overall management of publicity and outreach. You’ll lead the team of publicity officers and create a publicity strategy for the various stages of the Journal (submission, recruitment, events). You will also be responsible for the Journal’s weekly newsletter.

Chair

Your role will consist in the overall management of the events planned for the Journal. You will work with the President and Vice-President to plan a termly event calendar, recruit speakers, and book venues. You will lead a team of Events Officers, and will work with the Secretary and their team to promote the events.

Treasurer

Your role will consist in the handling of the CJPA’s bank account, the management of new memberships, and the tracking of expenses.

Editorial Board Roles

Managing editors

Managing Editors lead a small team of Senior and Junior Editors for a section of the journal (e.g. Political Sociology, Political History, Comparative Politics).

As Managing Editor you will receive articles submitted to your section and be tasked with deciding whether they are of a quality to warrant further peer-review. You will oversee the Editorial review process within your section, which includes assigning articles to Senior and Junior Editors, consolidating their ideas and communicating final recommendations to the Editors-in-Chief.

This role allows you to engage directly with original academic work and gain valuable leadership experience.

Senior editors

Senior Editors work in a team within a particular section of the journal.

As Senior Editor you will read and review articles assigned to you by your Managing Editor. You will provide comments on the substantive quality of the articles, make concrete suggestions to the authors and discuss your thoughts with the Managing and Senior Editors.

This role allows you to engage directly with original academic work in a field that interests you.

Junior editors

Junior Editors work in a team within a particular section of the journal.

As Junior Editor you will receive articles that have been accepted by the journal. You will be responsible for editing the articles in order to ensure that they meet the stylistic and formatting standards of the Journal.

This role serves as an excellent introduction to the Journal’s work.

Interview officers

The Interviews Officers will work throughout the duration of the Issue to produce high-quality academic interviews related to the field of politics for the CJPA website.

You’ll have a large amount of freedom in choosing interviewees and topics of discussion, so there’s a big opportunity to make your mark and shed light on fresh perspectives across the discipline.

Events officer

The main responsibilities will include working alongside other Junior Events Coordinators to assist the Senior Events Coordinator with the planning and logistics of Fresher’s Fair and the various society events.

This role allows you to gain valuable experience in event management.

Web officer

The main responsibilities will include working with the President to transition the current Squarespace website to WordPress or Drupal. Experience with either, as well as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, ASP, SQL, et cetera is ideal. 

This role allows you to gain valuable experience in project management and web design.

Outreach officer

The Outreach Officer will work with the Secretary to contact relevant university departments around the world regarding publishing opportunities, contact student societies and departments within the University of Cambridge to advertise events and recruitment opportunities, and manage the newsletter. 

You will also work to create engaging graphics for CJPA social media pages and publicity projects.

This role allows you to gain valuable experience in public relations and digital marketing.

This role allows you to gain valuable experience in event management.

Content editor

The Content Editor will work with the editor-in-chief of the short-form content to help review and edit the manuscripts submitted for publication on the Journal’s website.

This role serves as an excellent introduction to the Journal’s work.

This role allows you to gain valuable experience in project management and web design.
